If you’re into social marketing and Web 2.0 then you’ve probably heard of a little social news site called “Digg”. If you own a web site or blog and you’re not into social marketing then, you should be. It’s one of the best ways to draw attention to your site, build back links and gain loyal followers.
One of the problems with Digg though is that it’s so big and so popular that unless you’re a top tier blogger it’s very difficult to get on the front page and get any real attention. Plus, Digg is just one site. To be successful at social marketing you really need to diversify your Web 2.0 portfolio and participate on as many sites as you can that are relevant to your niche.
Well, over the holidays I got a little bored / curious / adventurous and decided to create my own Digg style social news site for controversial topics only.
It’s called AllThingsControversial.com
What Can You do on ATC?
AllThingsControversial.com (ATC) is a “web 2.0″ Social News site that allows members to post news stories, articles, blog posts and videos for others to vote and comment on. Additionally, members can add friends, view other members comments and voting, send private messages and more.
ATC, using the Pligg platform, uniquely combines collaborative bookmarking, social networking, folksonomy and blogging. Here, members are creator, consumer and judge of the content. Each submitted news item has a vote button, URL and optionally a short description. Members may vote or veto and comment on any item. In addition to voting on news items members can also rate the comments made on each item. Comments display in order of their rating. Highest rated comments display first.
How Much Does it Cost?
Nada, Zip, Nothing! It’s FREE!
Who Can Use ATC?
Anyone with a web site or blog with opinionated content on it. Anyone who has an agenda and wants a platform to be heard. Or, anyone who just wants to join in and vote / comment on stories.
Why Should You Use ATC?
Social News sites are a great way for web site and blog owners to promote their content, get back links and gain loyal readers, subscribers and/or customers. The more you participate and encourage others to do so the more popular your articles, and subsequently, your web site will become. Due to the collaborative nature of this site it will grow very quickly and rank high in search engines for a number of long-tail keyword phrases.
What Kind of Content Can You Post on ATC?
We welcome almost any and all opinionated content that is well thought out and well written / produced. The more polarizing and controversial your stories the more attention they are likely to receive. (Both good and bad
While we definitely encourage controversial content and spirited debate we will NOT TOLERATE any porn, hate speech or direct personal attacks. Please use intellect and wit to make your argument. Do not use personal insults, malicious comments, name calling or excessive profanity. If you do you will be BANNED for life!
Okay so, there it is. AllThingsControversial.com
Please go and check it out and let me know what you think.
Sincerely, Barry O.
p.s. While the ATC site has been thoroughly tested it is still in beta mode. So, if you run into any bugs or problems please don’t hesitate to let us know about them via the support ticket system.
