In other words when a person goes to a Web 2.0 site they are much less likely to have a specific reason or intent unlike someone who is searching on Google. Many Web 2.0 site users are just kind of hanging out, seeing what's new and checking out whatever grabs their attention. While affinity obviously plays a large roll in why and how people interact on Web 2.0 sites you don't have to be, nor do I think you always should be, as narrowly focused as you would be for search engine marketing. Most Web 2.0 site users are in it for the connection, community or cause. They can smell marketers a mile away. If they sense that a users intentions are less than genuine or sincere they most likely won't interact with that user. Barry O. I really DON'T care that some IM guru is on his way to a movie or having a BBQ with friends. Unfortunately, that's how most IMers use the service. I think there's a future there if you keep the content meaningful and relevant to your readers or as a more immediate notification service. No doubt that a large list on Twitter will become (or is) valuable. But the question is: why are they there? And how are you serving them so they want to stay? I'm sure Rick's program is right on with respect to this. Keep up the good wisdom, Barry. I think the real value of Twitter for me has been the ability to create dialogue with my followers ... which in turn has led to more sales.
