If you start your blog with One Click Installer then you'll be fine. But, installing plugins via FTP is so easy that it didn't make my list of "essential" plugins. ;) Barry O. Les,

It seems to get left off most lists, probably because it does nothing to the day to day functioning of the blog itself. I find it makes life very much easier, particularly if you want to test a plugin - it is a quick way to install - you test - then you can use one click to delete.
