Simple Tags Plugin for WordPress 2.3 Users
If you recently upgraded to WordPress 2.3, and you were heavily dependent upon the Ultimate Tag Warrior Plugin, then you’ve probably been having fits trying to figure out how to manage your tags.
I know I did until I found this nifty little plugin called Simple Tags.
This really is an extremely useful WordPress 2.3 plugin and it’s made my tag management so easy, and dare I say, fun.
If you’re new to WordPress and tagging and you are using WordPress 2.3 then I highly recommend this plugin to help you gain a better understanding of how tags work and how to manage them.

Barry,
Thanks for the credit!
I actually did move almost completely to Simple Tags but I have to admit that tag cloud created by it wasn’t my favorite so I ended up using another plugin ( a widget actually) that does it a lot better …
Alex
Alex,
Always glad to send people your way. I really enjoy reading your stuff.
Can you tell us what widget you are using for your Tag Cloud?
Thanks, Barry O.
Hi Barry,
Thanks for the info on the tag cloud. I’ve been using Catcloud http://zak.greant.com/catcloud/ and have been happy with it. It I can install it.. anyone can… anything too complicated and I’m done.
Gaida,
I just glanced at it but it looks like that one would be harder to install than a simple plugin and widget. With Simple Tags you don’t have to edit your template at all unless you use the related post feature.
The tag cloud is a widget.

I installed Simple Tags. I am amazed at the power of this plugin. It is so powerful and it is free. That is the most amazing part. I would imagine that there were an incredible number of hours involved in creating this.
If you want a powerful plugin, install this one.
Can you tell me the difference between this plug-in and the HeadSpace plug-in?
I was told HeadSpace is the ultimate tag and meta data plug-in, but darn, if I know how to use it!
GiGi,
I’ve never used the HeadSpace plugin but, I did go and look at their documentation page at http://urbangiraffe.com/plugins/headspace/
This plugin and Simple Tags have nothing at all in common. They perform completely different functions.
As it states on their site:
————————————–
Reasons for using the plugin
At its most basic, the plugin allows you to add any HTML head elements to:
* Individual posts
* Posts written by a specific users
* Posts belonging to certain categories
Why would you want to do any of that? Well, there are many reasons. The most simple is that you might want posts from different categories to appear with different styles, or maybe a post written by the administrator is in one style while posts from normal users get another.
————————————–
I would say that unless you’re a moderate to advanced WordPress user and you have a good working knowledge of PHP that you stay away from this one. Or, hire someone to format it for you if you need separate styles for different posts, categories and/or authors.
Barry O.
Thanks, Barry. You really cleared that up for me.
I was told that it would everything I needed for tagging, but I guess not.
Good to know there’s an easier solution.
GiGi
